Rebecca Gagnon
Rebecca began her dance training under the direction of Anne
Burton Avery and Wynn McCurdy in Marietta, Ga. After
developing a love of dance and a strong basis of technique with
Miss Avery and Miss McCurdy, Rebecca was offered a
scholarship to study at the Atlanta School of Ballet. While at
ASB, Rebecca was honored to train under Atlanta legend Robert
Barnett. Mr. Barnett instilled in Rebecca a love for Balanchine’s
work and style. When Robert Barnett retired from the Atlanta
Ballet, Rebecca continued to study with the Atlanta Ballet Center
for Dance Education in the Pre-Professional Division. Rebecca
learned the importance of summer study at the Nutmeg
Conservatory, Joffery Ballet, and Ballet West. Rebecca was
especially motivated and inspired by ballerinas Julianne Kepley
and Caroline Cavallo who teach with the same grace and beauty
with which they dance.
As a performer, Rebecca has danced with the Atlanta Ballet in
various roles in the Nutcracker, Copellia, and other ballets.
Rebecca enjoyed working for Barry Manilow’s company, Stiletto
Entertainment, and performing aboard Holland America’s MS
Statendam. Beyond classical dance, Rebecca has been a
Georgia Force Cheerleader and an Atlanta Falcon’s Cheerleader.
Rebecca taught at the Academy of Ballet Arts in Marietta for six
years, and she worked extensively with their performance
company, the Academy Dance Company. Seeing her students
embrace the challenges and joys of dance makes teaching a
rewarding career. Rebecca is excited to be a part of the Prima
Ballet family!
